Data coming from the New York Department of Health shows that the number of citizens infected by sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is unusually high in New York.
Not surprisingly two-thirds of these reported cases are found in New York City. Common STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea are showing up in high numbers in East Harlem.
On top of this bad news about the state of New York City’s sexual health is that the majority of these cases are centered in black communities.
The main defense against these diseases is keeping the public informed and to promote protection during sexual activity.
